Go to the visual mode using “ctrl + v” instead of “v”, then use the motion arrow keys to select the block you want.
Perform any copy/delete/edit function you would normally perform using vim.

For the windows version of gvim use “ctrl-q” to activate the block selection mode.

Last week i get an interessting task. How to convert scanned documents from eg. jpeg or png to pdf? With Linux this should easily be possible, i thought. So, i started googleing arround and found two very usefull tools. ImageMagick and pdftk.
I had a couple of pngs where some of them were continuous pages of one scanned document. In the first step i tried to convert all files to pdfs and then i wanted to join the pdfs to one single document.
For the first step i used convert from the ImageMagick-Toolkit. I wrote a small shellscript that does the whole work for me

for i in $(ls -1); do convert $i $i.pdf; done;

This does all the conversions for me and i got a lots of pdf-files in the directory.
The next step was the compounding of the files. My researches brought up the pdftk. A tool, which fits my whole needs and is simple to use. All i had to do was

pdftk file1.pdf file2.pdf file3.pdf cat output out.pdf

then i got my designated pdf-file in out.pdf .

Im Augenblick befinde ich mich irgendwie in einer totalen Schaffenskrise … ich habe eine Liste mit tollen/witzigen Projekten die ich gerne in irgendeiner Art und Weise als Webseiten umsetzen würde.

Doch da kommt das Problem … welche Plattform, welche Sprache, welches Backend soll ich dafür verwenden?

1. PHP
2. J2EE mit JBoss
3. Python

Alle drei Sprachen/Umgebungen haben etwas für sich … und ich würde mich auch gerne in allen dreien weiter vertiefen, doch leider fehlt mir dafür die Zeit. Also werde ich mich zwangsläufig für eine davon entscheiden müssen. (continue reading…)

So, es ist also mal wieder so weit, das Lug-Camp 2007 in Interlaken, in der Schweiz, hat begonnen.
Nach einer reichlich verwirrenden, aber dennoch lustigen Fahrt in unserem VW-Bus, haben wir es dann letztendlich doch noch geschafft, unbeschadet hier anzukommen.
Ein kleines Fazit unserer Anreise:
Begonnen hat das ganze in Freising. Die Planug sah einen allgemeinen Aufbruch um 10 Uhr morgens vor. Aber erwartungsgemäß hat das natürlich nicht ganz geklappt. Um kurz vor 11 waren dann alle (ganze drei Mitglieder) der Lug-Fs aufgesammelt und wir konnten aufbrechen.

Lange hab ich nach einem Programm gesucht, mit dessen Hilfe ich meine Dungeons und Dragons Charakter erstellen und auch verwalten kann. Damit soll dann das lästige Blättern in den Quellenbüchern entfallen, die man meist eh nicht vollständig zur Hand hat …
Nach einger Suche habe ich dann zwei sehr brauchbare Programme gefunden:

• CrystalBall
• pcGen
